Editorial Policy
Our goal is simple: accurate, useful price information that helps homeowners make decisions. These are the rules we follow.
Independence
Advertisers and partners have no say over our price ranges, recommendations or which topics we cover. Ads are clearly separated from editorial content. See how we make money.
Accuracy and sourcing
- Every price range is based on cited, dated sources (see our methodology).
- We don't invent figures, testimonials or credentials. When we estimate something sources don't provide, we label it as an estimate.
- Brand pages use market ranges and say when a company does not publish prices. We are not affiliated with the brands we cover unless we say so.
Safety-related topics
Guides about roofs, foundations, mold, radon, asbestos, septic and sewer systems, pesticides and tree work cover prices only. We include safety notes and recommend licensed, insured professionals. We do not publish instructions for hazardous DIY work.
Review process
- Research and drafting from current sources.
- Consistency checks between the guide, related guides and calculators.
- Editorial review before publication, and a re-check of prices at least once a year.
Corrections
If we get something wrong, we fix it quickly and update the "Last updated" date. Significant corrections are noted on the page. Report an error through our contact page.
Use of AI tools
We may use software tools, including AI, to help research and draft guides. Every published guide is based on cited sources and is reviewed by a person before publication.
