Insulated vinyl siding costs about $7–$12 per sq. ft. installed, roughly $3–$4 more per sq. ft. than standard vinyl. For a house with about 2,000 sq. ft. of wall, most homeowners pay $14,000–$24,000 (Fixr, NerdWallet and This Old House data, as of October 2026).

Insulated vinyl siding has a layer of rigid foam bonded to the back of each panel. The foam fills the gap behind the vinyl, so the siding feels more solid, resists dents better and adds a modest amount of insulation (roughly R-2 to R-7, depending on the product) over the wall studs.
It costs about 20%–50% more than regular vinyl. This guide covers installed prices, how insulated vinyl compares with standard grades, and what else goes into the bill. For all vinyl grades and styles, see our vinyl siding cost guide.

Cost breakdown: materials, labor, permits and extras
Line-item estimate for installing insulated vinyl siding on about 2,000 sq. ft. of wall, including removal of the old siding. Ranges are national, as of October 8, 2026.
| Cost item | Typical range | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| Insulated vinyl panels (materials) | $7,000–$11,000 | Foam-backed panels and standard accessories |
| Labor | $4,000–$10,000 | Installation at about $2–$5 per sq. ft. |
| Old siding removal & disposal | $0–$2,500 | Often included; $1,000–$2,500 if billed separately |

What affects the price
- Insulation thickness. Thicker foam backing raises the R-value (insulated products add roughly R-2 to R-7) and the price. Insulated panels sit at $7–$12 per sq. ft. installed, the top of the vinyl price range.
- Area. Price scales with wall area. Each 1,000 sq. ft. of wall adds about $7,000–$12,000, and gables, dormers and bump-outs add waste and labor.
- Brand and profile. Premium profiles, such as double 6-inch or single 7-inch lap, shakes and board and batten, and darker colors cost more than basic lap profiles. Brand and product line make a difference too, so compare quotes on the same product.
- Trim. The thicker panels need deeper J-channel, corner posts and window trim, which adds material and labor. Homes with many windows and doors feel this most.
- Installation. Labor runs about $2–$5 per sq. ft., similar to standard vinyl, but fitting trim around the foam backing takes extra time. Tear-off of old siding adds about $1,000–$2,500 when billed separately.
Ways to save
- Get at least three written quotes for the same brand, product line and profile so you can compare prices fairly.
- Consider insulated vinyl only on the walls that matter most, or compare its price with standard vinyl plus a separate rigid foam board layer ($500–$4,000 for a whole house).
- Choose a standard lap profile and lighter color; premium profiles and dark colors push the price higher.
- Ask your utility and state energy office about insulation rebates. The federal 25C energy-efficiency tax credit ended for improvements placed in service after December 31, 2025, so don't count on it for a 2026 project.
- Overlay sound existing siding where your contractor and local code allow it to avoid $1,000–$2,500 in tear-off costs.
How to get an accurate quote
Get at least three written, itemized quotes from licensed, insured siding contractors. Provide:
- The approximate wall area or the house dimensions and number of stories.
- The brand, product line, profile, color and R-value you're considering.
- Whether the old siding comes off and what it's made of.
- Ask what's included: house wrap, deeper trim and J-channel, soffit and fascia, disposal, permits, and warranties.
FAQ
Is insulated vinyl siding worth the extra cost?
It can be if you want a stiffer, more dent-resistant wall and some extra insulation over the studs. The added R-value is modest, so it usually won't match the savings of air sealing or attic insulation; see our attic insulation cost guide for comparison.
How much more does insulated vinyl cost than regular vinyl?
Typically about $3–$4 more per sq. ft., or roughly 20%–50% more overall. On 2,000 sq. ft. of wall, that's several thousand dollars extra.
What R-value does insulated vinyl siding have?
Most products add roughly R-2 to R-7, depending on foam thickness. Check the manufacturer's rating for the specific product line you're quoted.
