Vinyl Siding Cost Calculator

This calculator estimates the cost of vinyl siding from the area, quality and trim.

Enter your wall area, choose the vinyl grade, and adjust for the shape of the house and the amount of trim. The calculator returns a price range based on published 2026 cost-guide data, not a quote. It also adds optional extras such as tear-off of the old siding and permits.

Don't know your wall area? Multiply the length of each wall by its height, add them up, and subtract large openings like garage doors; most homes need about 1,200–2,500 sq. ft. of siding. For full price tables, see our vinyl siding cost guide, or compare materials in the siding replacement cost guide.

Typical results

For reference, typical installed totals reported in 2026:

ScenarioTypical rangeNotes
About 1,000 sq. ft. of wall, builder or standard grade$3,000–$7,000Small, simple home
About 2,000 sq. ft. of wall, standard grade$8,000–$14,000Most common project; national average about $12,000
About 2,000 sq. ft. of wall, insulated vinyl$14,000–$24,000Foam-backed panels

What goes into the estimate

  • Wall area. Vinyl is priced per square foot of wall, so the area drives the result. Measure the walls rather than using the home's floor area; a 2,000 sq. ft. house typically needs 1,800–2,000 sq. ft. of siding.
  • Vinyl quality. Builder-grade panels run about $3–$6 per sq. ft. installed, standard $4–$7 and premium thick panels $6–$10. Thicker vinyl resists wind and impact better.
  • Insulation. Insulated vinyl costs about $7–$12 per sq. ft. installed. Adding rigid foam board under standard siding is a separate extra that costs about $500–$4,000 for a whole house.
  • Trim and accessories. Corners, J-channel and starter strip are in the base price. Houses with many windows and doors, or upgraded trim, need more pieces and labor, which the trim selector reflects.
  • Removal of old siding. Tear-off and disposal of the old siding typically adds $1,000–$2,500 when it isn't already included in the installer's price. Skip it if the new vinyl will go over sound existing siding.

How we built the ranges

Prices per sq. ft. by grade come from Fixr's vinyl siding cost guide (updated January 2026) and NerdWallet's vinyl siding guide (updated August 2025, based on Angi data), and match the ranges in our vinyl siding cost guide. Removal, foam board and permit costs come from Fixr (January 2026). The house-shape and trim multipliers are WhatHomeCosts estimates that reflect the extra labor and waste on complex walls; the regional factor reflects typical differences in labor rates.

The calculator does not include soffit and fascia replacement, gutters, window or door replacement, repairs to rotted sheathing or framing found after tear-off, or asbestos testing and abatement for old cement-shingle siding. Real quotes depend on an on-site measurement and the product line you choose.

FAQ

What is the vinyl siding material cost alone?

Vinyl panels and accessories average roughly $3 per sq. ft. for mid-range products, or about $300 per square (100 sq. ft.). Labor adds about $2–$5 per sq. ft., which is why installed prices run $3–$12 per sq. ft.

How many squares of siding do I need?

Siding is sold by the square, which covers 100 sq. ft. Divide your wall area by 100 and add some extra for waste around windows and corners; your installer will confirm the final count.

Is the calculator result a quote?
